Recipient of the 2003 America’s Top Dentist Award from Consumers Research Council of America, Dr. Arthur F. Sun is a prosthodontist and dental implantologist specializing in reconstructive, implant, and cosmetic dentistry to treat impaired chewing and rejuvenate smiles. Among over eight thousand licensed dentists practicing in Massachusetts, Dr. Sun is one of only fourteen who are board-certified in prosthodontics, and the only one practicing in Lexington. His expertise in engineering dental prostheses includes inlays, onlays, veneers, crowns, fixed bridges, and removable dentures. With more than twenty years experience, he provides comfortable, state-of-the-art dental treatment adhering to rigorous esthetic and functional standards.

Dr. Sun’s education and training are extensive: National Taiwan University, Bachelor of Dental Surgery, 1979; Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry: Postdoctoral prosthodontic training, 1982; Master of Dental Science in Prosthodontics, 1983; Doctor of Dental Medicine, 1984; Doctor of Dental Science in Prosthodontics, 1985; Brookdale Hospital and New York University: Surgical and restorative implantology training. Board-certified by the American Board of Prosthodontics, Dr. Sun is a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists. In recognition of his special skills, knowledge, and commitment to lifelong learning and ethical practices in prosthodontics, he is a Diplomate of the American College of Prosthodontics.

Awarded the first Excellence in Teaching Award by postdoctoral dental students at Harvard University, Dr. Sun is a graduate-school faculty member in prosthodontics at Harvard and a Clinical Associate Professor at the Boston University School of Dental Medicine. An editorial consultant to the Journal of Oral Implantology and member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, he conducts research in ceramic dental materials and in osseous preservation of dental arches. Dr. Hu’s practices includes, but is not limited to, operative, crown/bridge and veneers, various prosthetics and implant restorations, surgical extraction and other minor oral surgeries, treatment of oral infections, simplified orthodontics etc. His clinical focus is on utilizing multiple cutting-edge technology in dentistry and teamwork practice to provide optimal dental care to patients.

After he completed his initial dental education and received his first dental degree at Peking University School of Stomatology in China, Dr. Hu continued his advanced residency training in GPR (where he had specific training on surgical extractions), and subsequently in prosthodontics and implantology in the Department of Stomatology at Peking University People’s Hospital, one of the leading university hospitals in China. During the period from 1996 to 2003, Dr. Hu practiced general dentistry and hospital-based dentistry as a resident and attending physician, as well as complex prosthodontic rehabilitation and dental esthetics as a prosthodontist utilizing dental implants, crowns/bridges, veneers, removable partial and complete dentures.

Dr. Hu received his PhD in Oral Biology and Biomaterials at the Ohio State University College of Dentistry where he also gained additional advanced training in CAD/CAM restorative system, technology of color and appearance matching in dentistry, and maxillofacial prosthetics. He started his orthodontic residency training in 2010 at University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, while he received Invisalign certificate, and completed the standard dental laser training at Academy of Laser Dentistry. More recently, Dr. Hu was awarded his other dental degree (DMD) at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine after finishing his two-year clinical training in the Advanced Standing Program.

Dr. Hu has published over 20 articles or abstracts in peer-reviewed scientific journals and/or at dental and medical conferences. Dr. Hu has been a member of the American Dental Association and the Massachusetts Dental Society, International & American Association for Dental Research, American Association of Orthodontics, and International Anaplastology Association, Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry etc. He serves as a reviewer for over 10 dental and medical scientific journals including: Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentalfacial Orthopedics, Chinese Journal of Prosthodontics, Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, Dental Materials, Journal of Dentistry & Oral Disorder etc. He has maintained his academic ties in academic activities in dentistry with the Forsyth Institute, and the Ohio State University College of Dentistry.

When he is not practicing dentistry, Dr. Hu enjoys music, playing tennis and basketball, spending time with his family and friends.
